Simcere Releases 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report

On May 31, 2022, Simcere Pharmaceuticals (2096.HK) released the 2021 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report. This report comprehensively shows the company's progress in innovative R&D, quality control, medicine accessibility, employee care & development, environmental protection, community welfare and charity, etc. Based on 2020 and targeting 2025, Simcere strives to make green development a bright feature.

 

1Patient-first innovator


We uphold the patients-first, focusing on efficiency and adherence to differentiation of three therapeutic areas that is oncology, the central nervous system and the autoimmune system. Meanwhile, we make a forward-looking deployment to diseases that may have significant clinical needs in the future.

 

The State Key Laboratory of Translational Medicine and Innovative Drugs officially passed the five-year construction period acceptance in December 2021.

On the aspect of R&D and cooperation, the Group signed more than 10 cooperative projects in 2021, including the small molecule antineoplastic drug R&D project with Kazia Therapeutics, the drug R&D project relating to neurodegenerative diseases with Vivoryon Therapeutics, the project involved an oral small molecule inhibitor of COVID-19 3CLpro with SIMM, and a project on central neuroprotective agents with Avilex Pharma. The collaboration has greatly enriched the R&D pipelines and will enhance our development in the future.

 

 

2.Quality-Excellent Drugmaker

 

We always put the quality of medicines first, and have established a whole-process pharmaceutical quality management system from raw material procurement to delivery of finished products to customers.

1. In 2021, the Medical Marketing Department held nearly 8,000 academic conferences, to achieve high coverage of product information and latest research and development results in hospitals, doctors and patient groups across the country.

2. The Group uses the "Drug Code Trace" traceability codes for all the products to ensure that the whole product-related process can be traced.

3.People-Centered Employer

 

The Group has always been people-oriented, caring for the growth of employees and social development. We set up a "talent recommendation channel" within the company, regularly release key positions, and set up a "Bole Award" to encourage internal employees to recommend outstanding talents.  In 2021, we launched a number of talent development projects for different business types, such as the "Simcere Project X", "Management Trainee Plan" and "the Dandelion Project" to recruit outstanding talents from both inside and outside of China.

 

"Simcere Roastshow " inspires all staff to "dare to say what they want to say", and promote rectification due to insufficient feedback.

 

Repay the society:

In 2021, 149 doctors from 15 provinces and 12 pharmacies participated in the JIEBAILI® Patient Assistance Program. As of the end of the reporting period, the program had covered 7 provinces across China, delivering 1,250 boxes of free drugs to 220 patients. The youngest was 31 and the oldest was 87.

 

In 2021, the Group will donate a total of RMB 38.967 million in materials and cash.

Heavy rain in Henan:

In August 2021, extreme precipitation occurred in Henan. The Group immediately donated 3 million yuan and 2 million yuan worth of urgently needed medicines for disaster relief to the affected areas in Henan through the Jiangsu Charity Federation.

 

Educational assistance - Continue to carry out public welfare actions for many schools such as Hope Primary School in Lu'an City, Anhui Province and Bayi Orphan School in Yushu Prefecture to help education fairness.

Rural Revitalization——Participate in the "Happy Home" jointly launched by Jiangsu Charity Federation and Jiangsu Contemporary Art Creation Research Association. All the funds raised went to the village-community mutual aid platform under the Happy Homeland” project to assist people in need.

 

Volunteer action - organized employees to donate blood without compensation for ten consecutive years. In July 2021, 82 volunteers donated a total of 21,900 ml of blood, and the group's employees donated a total of 154,400 ml of blood.

 

4Environmentally Friendly Operator

In 2021, we set environmental goals for the first time. With 2020 as the base year and 2025 as the target year, we will set targets for energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste discharge, and strive to make green development a bright spot for the Group.
